Think occasionally of the suffering of which you spare yourself the sight ~ Albert Schweitzer
On a day when many families, across Canada, are gathering to share a great feast I’d like to take a minute to say thank you.
Thank you to the farmers (especially those from my CSA) who fill my life with colourful, nourishing food. I appreciate the work you do everyday. I’m sorry about all the blisters, the mud and the hot sun.
Thank you to the people of the world who see suffering and demand change, you fill my heart and nourish my soul. I appreciate the work you do everyday. I’m sorry about the harsh words, the apathy and the frustration.
Thank you to animals who fill my world with life and joy. I appreciate you everyday. And I’m sorry.
There was no better way to spend a beautiful autumn day then at Cedar Row Farm Sanctuary. The Poole family hosted an open house on Saturday. It was wonderful to pull up to the farm and see children playing in the grass, animals strolling in the sun, and vegan t-shirts everywhere.
As we toured around the grounds (thanks to Steph) we heard the rescue stories of each animal and saw the newest residents still dealing with the tough transition. The farm provides a great opportunity for children and adults to learn more about the realities of our food system while watching the glee of goats rubbing up against a scratching post.
I was amazed by the resilience of the animals I met. Many have experienced incredible recoveries from injuries and illness. After all that they have lived through I feel very grateful that they greeted me with excitement and interest. Humans can learn a lot about forgiveness and gratitude from the animals in our lives.
The Poole family has created a beautiful home for the animals they care for. There is a great sense of hope at Cedar Row.
Happy Thanksgiving Canada. May your life be full of animals (human and non-human) and your plate be full of plants. ♥
